Picture mashup

Grabbed a few photos off of http://www.sxc.hu/ and put together this mashup. I chopped the guy out of a rock climbing photo, flipped him in the horizontal, rotated him and scaled him to fit.  Then I made a copy of him and retooled the perspective and color to make the shadow match (opacity adjustment as well).  Put the guy and his  shadow in place and blurred the edges.  I made him a little opaque at that point to give it a sense of fantasy.  If I had thought of it before I merged layers I think it would have been cool to give him an outerglow too.

Repeating Dream "Cthulhu R'lyeh"

I keep having this repeating dream since the earthquake.  The geometry is all wrong.  I hear a noise in the background.  It sounds like "Cthulhu R'lyeh".  Words of advice.... Do not try reading Lovecraft before bed.  It screws with your head.

Screwing around with GIMP - Some Lame Pictures

I always wished that I had some artistic ability.  Just prior to lunch some days one of the guys I follow on twitter (@Minervity) posts tutorials on how to make some cool stuff in Photoshop.  Since I am too cheap to actually buy a copy of photoshop I try to follow along in GIMP.  His stuff always comes out looking 500 times better than what I get, but since my stuff today didn't look like total shit I decided it would be worth sharing.

First Attempt:

I abandoned his water look after I screwed up in the application of the effects and decided to go for a full out metal look.  Kinda pleased with how it came out.  

Second Attempt:

I did better this time, it looks more like a water effect at least.  I think I got lazy with the brushes and that became my downfall.  I don't like the way the text blurred into the background so much, but it was hard to fix.
